M3 L2: Jacques Cartier (Part 2)

In 1541/1542, Francis I sent Cartier back to New France.

 

This time, Francis put his friend and pirate, Jean Francois De La Roque de Roberval, as team leader.

 

de Roberval sent Cartier ahead of him, a year before he was completely ready for the expedition.

 

Cartier’s character is on display here in his relationship with the Natives and with de Roberval, with whom he crossed paths on his journey back to France.
