M2 L2: Louis de Berquin

Louis de Berquin was a French lawyer, civil servant, linguist, Protestant Reformer, a nobleman of Artois and a friend and councilor of King Francis 1.

He wrote many books about the apostasy of the Church. His sentence was to watch his books burn and to have his tongue pierced.

He chose burning at the stake over the ‘silencing’ of God’s word if he could not speak.
