M6 L2: Pierre du Gua de Monts (Part 2) New France

Pierre Du Gua de Monts served in Henry’s navy during the French Wars of religion.

When he received the fur trading monopoly for New France (Quebec) in 1608, he appointed Champlain as Lieutenant, while he stayed in France to work on raising funds to provide supplies for Champlain and his men in New France.

After the death of Henry IV, he continued to establish trading companies to provide funds to keep Champlain in New France
