Timeline

  • 1499 – Diane de Potiers born. Lady in waiting for Louise of Savoy, Claude of France and Elenora of Austria
  • 1514 – Diane married Louis de Breze
  • 1519 – Birth of Henry II to Claude and Francis I
  • Birth of Catherine de Medici to Marguerite La Tour
  • 1521 – Catherine’s parents die of the plague
  • 1525 – Francis goes to war. Louise of Savoy acts as Regent.
  • 1526 – 1530 Francis III Duke of Brittany and Henry II held as part of The King’s Ransom. Diane accompanies them to the exchange.
  • 1527-1530 – Coup in Florence to overthrow Pope Clement VII (Catherine’s Uncle). Catherine kidnapped and moved around to various convents.
  • Pope Clement IV calls to Charles V for help
  • 1529 – Charles V laid siege to Florence. Wins it back for Pope Clement VII. Florence integrated into the Holy Roman Empire.
  • 1530 – Diane as Lady in Waiting for Elenora – Francis I’s second wife / sister of Charles V
  • 1531 – Diane a widow at 32
  • 1533 – Henry and Catherine marry at 14 y/o
  • 1534 – 1544 – Henry and Diane’s affair began. Henry has other mistresses
  • 1536 – Francis (son of the King Francis I) dies. Henry II heir apparent.
  • 1538- Mary of Guise married to James V of Scotland.
  • 1543 – Mary Queen of Scots sent to France to be raised by Catherine & Henry II
  • 1544 – First son (Francis II) born to Henry and Catherine
  • 1547 – Francis I dies. Henry II rules
  • 1548 – Diane given a Duchy by Henry II
  • 1549 – Catherine crowned Queen Consort
  • 1550 – Mary Queen of Scots married to Francis II
  • 1559 – Henry II dies, Francis II rules for 1 year
  • 1560 – Francis II dies, Mary Queen of Scots sent back to France
  • 1521 -1559 – Italian Wars with France
