1534 – Placard Affair

1536/1537 – Francis at war again after ransom paid in 1530. 

1538 – Montmorency (soldier captured with Francis at Pavia; Released to negotiate Francis’s release, the exchange and receiving of the boys) Demoted from Constable of France by Francis I.because of failed policy with Charles V. 

1540 – Edict of Fontainebleau deems Protestants as ‘heretics’ and convicted as ‘treason’ 1547 – Francis died

1548 – Montmorency reinstated by Henry II

1551 – Edict of Chateaubriant enforced by Henry II

1557 – Edict of Compiegne. Attack on Calvinist meeting in a home; Protestant noblewoman burnt at the stake

1557-1598 – Persecution of Protestants until Edict of Nantes
