This historic book exposes the fact that 25 Scripture verses have been etched in stone, brass and glass in and on The Peace Tower of the Centre Block of the Parliament Buildings.
Externally, the first Scripture verse you see etched in the concrete as you approach the Centre Block, is Psalm 72:1. On the East is our motto, Psalm 72:8 and on the West is the Scripture verse from Proverbs 29:18.
In the brass surrounding the Altar of Remembrance in the Memorial Chamber are the verses from Ephesians 6:14-17 about the Armour of God. Miniature shields representing the different parts of the armour, can be seen there too.
Beautifully etched in the stained glass windows of the East, South and West are figures representing some of our deeply-held Canadian values of Labour, Progress, Motherhood, Justice, Valour, Wisdom and Prosperity.
In the South Window we are warned in a quote from Pericles, that we will only possess freedom if we have the courage to defend it.
